New Era completes two new VSAT sites in a remote part of Africa

March 2006.   New Era has just completed a satellite communication installation for a prestigious international mining company opening two new sites in a remote part of Africa.

They needed fast and inexpensive communications with Australia and Canada, and came to us seeking a cost effective solution.

The two sites are powered by 2.4m Prodelin satellite antennas, Comtech EFData SDM-300L modems and C-Band BUCs providing the transmitting power. We air shipped the VSAT equipment from the USA to the client in Mauritania, but because of the remote location, the shipping proved to be the greatest challenge of the entire project.

Using VoIP equipment they now have excellent telephone and Internet access to any point in the world from both sites.

Installation engineer, Lanre Or, completed the two sites spending no more than 24 hours at each location.

NEW ERA re-building the communications infrastructure in Iraq

Ex-patriot Iraqis are returning to their homeland and beginning new businesses. Telecom and Internet access are in very bad repair at present, but these new Iraqi Entrepreneurs are turning to VSAT as a cheap and convenient way of offering service.

Since May of 2003, New Era has shipped five VSAT systems to be installed in various cities in Iraq. Each system has been tailored to the particular environment and application that it is to provide.

The low annual rainfall in Iraq has allowed us to provide Ku band systems. These VSATs are smaller and cheaper than similar C-Band systems but the high power spot beams from the satellite ensures that an equal amount of traffic can be carried at a lower cost.

The intermittent power situation has provided an additional challenge to the engineers installing the telephone and Internet connections, but with time and perseverance the systems are running and providing service both in and out of Iraq.
